Audiology and Hearing Aid Services
Hearing problems happen for many reasons. They can have sudden onset or become more severe over time. If you are concerned about an aspect of your hearing the first thing to do is contact our office. We will answer your questions and direct you to the right person.
The first step toward finding solutions to hearing problems is a hearing test. This easy test involves listening to tones and words through earphones and responding while an audiologist monitors the test. Most hearing problems are diagnosed this way.
Montezuma Hearing Clinic offers many detailed services for the diagnosis and treatment of hearing and other medical issues involving the ears. We also seek to protect your hearing and offer several ways to do that. Here is a brief description of many of our services:
Diagnostic Audiologic Evaluations
This service begins with a hearing test. Most patients arrive at the clinic needing answers to one or more hearing problems. An evaluation can involve an examination by an ENT (otolaryngologist) or an audiologist or both. Evaluations include checking your ability to hear but also physically checking the outer, middle and inner ear.
Hearing Aid Evaluation and Selection
After a hearing test, the results are discussed with our doctor. A hearing aid could be recommended. There are many to choose from and we help patients choose the right style and size for their needs. Hearing aids are electronic marvels today, with advanced technology to offer clear hearing in any noisy situation.
Hearing Aid Dispensing & Fitting
Once you have chosen the correct hearing aid, we will fit and test it under several conditions. Each device s given a custom fit and patients will be shown all aspects of their units. We are not done until you are completely satisfied with the fit, function and use of each hearing aid. We have several brands and many styles to choose from. You will be shown how to care for the device and keep it working perfectly.
Hearing Aid Repairs
Every electronic device needs maintenance. Sometimes they need repairs. The tiny wires and other parts inside a hearing device can break or come loose with use. Technicians at Montezuma Hearing Clinic will check your hearing aid and can make repairs or adjustments in the office. Sometimes, the hearing aid will be sent to a larger service center. Either way, we can keep your unit in top condition.
Tinnitus Treament
Noise in the ears, or tinnitus, is an ongoing problem affecting many people. This condition is a symptom of a deteriorating or damaged middle ear. Patients describe buzzing or whooshing sounds. The condition is rated from mild to profound and can affect daily life. Treatments include methods that train the brain to regard tinnitus as background noise; using sound machines that mask tinnitus; using sound producing hearing aids that help mask noise and train the brain for relief.
Cerumen Removal
Earwax buildup can impair hearing and become uncomfortable. Earwax, also called cerumen, usually dissipates over time but can become a problem. Our technicians at Montezuma Hearing Clinic can easily and painlessly remove earwax.
Custom Earmolds and Earplugs
Patients who need hearing aids will find a large array of choices at the clinic. Some hearing aids require earmolds or pieces of plastic custom shaped to the outer ear. The hearing aid is fitted to the earmold or connected through a tube. Earplugs can also be custom shaped to your ears. These products offer safe and effective treatment for hearing loss and protection.
Musician's Ear Plugs and Monitors: Evaluation and Fitting
Musicians need a specific type of hearing protection: they must be able to hear musical notes while also being protected from loud sounds. We offer hearing monitors that let a certain amount or frequency of sound come through. The earplug or monitor have tiny holes that allow some sound to enter the ear.
